SAFEKEEPING
Through our safekeeping program, animals are cared for at our facility while their families face challenges such as emergencies, domestic violence, or periods of housing insecurity. Pets in our care receive a safe place to stay, daily enrichment, and plenty of love until they can be reunited with their families.
We also provide preventative veterinary care - including exams, vaccines, and spay/neuter procedures for animals currently staying in our facility, helping them stay healthy and ready to return home.
This program is available by professional referral only.
Referrals to the Safekeeping Program can be made by professionals such as
Hospital Social Workers: Available at facilities like the Royal Alexandra Hospital and University of Alberta Hospital, supporting patients during medical emergencies.
Shelter Caseworkers: Staff at organizations such as Boyle Street Community Services, Hope Mission, and the Bissell Centre, assisting individuals experiencing housing instability.
Domestic Violence Support Workers: Professionals from agencies like WIN house or Today Family Violence Centre, supporting those fleeing or experiencing family violence.
Police or Crisis Intervention Teams: Members of the Edmonton Police Service or crisis counsellors from 211 Alberta, supporting individuals during emergencies or acute crises.
